Profile Placeholder Page

The Profile Placeholder Page template allows you to include an external faculty or staff member in your local directory listings and organizational charts without creating a full, hosted bio page on your site. Because a person's Title, Department, Contact Info, or Sort Order may differ locally, this template lets you override those specific fields for your local directory. However, since their core background — such as their Bio, Education, Research, and Publications — remains identical, the directory entry will route visitors back to their primary external profile page.

Key Purpose: Seamlessly integrates external faculty and staff into your local directory with localized overrides — without creating a full, hosted bio page on your site. It lets you customize display details (like local titles or sort placement) on your site while redirecting visitors to the primary external profile for comprehensive background information like bios, education, research, and publications.

How it Works

• No Editable Body Regions: Unlike standard Profile pages, this page contains no editable main content regions (such as Bio, Publications, or Education).
• Data-Only Output: The page publishes solely as an XML data file used by local Directory Listing pages and Organizational Charts.
• MultiEdit Overrides: Editable MultiEdit fields allow you to customize titles, sort order, contact details, and department affiliations specifically for your local site.
• Direct Links: Clicking a person's entry on your local Directory Listing page routes site visitors straight to their primary external profile URL.

Creating a New Profile Placeholder Page

1. Navigate to the folder where you store your faculty/staff profile pages.
2. Click + New in the top action bar.
3. Select the New Profile Placeholder template item.
   

   

4. In the modal dialog that appears, fill out the initial fields:
   • External Profile URL: (Required) The target external website link where visitors will be directed.
   • Filename: (Required) The filename for this entry (e.g., jane-doe.pcf).
   • Tags: (Optional) Initial tags for filtering.
   • Access Group: Set to Inherit from Parent in most cases.
   • Overwrite Existing: Select if replacing a pre-existing page.
5. Click Create. The system will auto-import available MultiEdit field values from the specified external source.

Managing & Customizing Data

1. Overriding MultiEdit Fields

After creation, you can customize how the profile displays in your local directory listing:

1. Check out the page and click MultiEdit.
2. Adjust any required metadata (e.g., Display Name, Title, Phone, Email, Building/Location, or Sort Order).
3. Save and Publish.

2. Assigning Tags

Tags can be assigned to categorize the profile for directory page filtering:

1. Check out the file.
2. Go to Properties > Tags.
3. Add or update the appropriate tags for the page.
4. Save and Publish.

3. Using Profile Placeholders in Org Charts

Placeholder profiles can be seamlessly integrated into local organizational charts:

1. Check out the file.
2. Go to MultiEdit and locate the Organizational Structure section.
3. Use the Reports To field to select the profile of the supervisor this individual reports to.
4. Save and Publish.
