What's Changing in Crimson Menu v2
About the Redesign
Crimson Menu v2 introduces a refreshed design and improved functionality to enhance usability, accessibility, and consistency across SDSU websites.
Key Updates in Crimson Menu v2:
-
Main Menu Button Relocation
The main menu button has moved from the upper-right corner to just below the SDSU logo on the left. This change makes the menu more visible and intuitive for users. -
Menu Button Label Update
The generic “Menu” label is being replaced with the site's title. This helps visitors quickly identify which site they're on. -
Breadcrumbs Replaced with Section Menus
Breadcrumbs are being replaced by section-based dropdown menus. This allows for the removal of the “In This Section” button, which often caused confusion by not clearly indicating which section the menu referred to. -
Utility Links Removed
The optional Utility Links (previously located next to the search button) are no longer supported. If your site used these links, it's recommended to move them into the top level of the main menu. The main menu will continue to be managed in theheader.pcf
file, as before. -
Quick Links Menu Removed
The Quick Links menu is being phased out. If your site still requires this feature, consider adding a “Quick Links” accordion item to the main menu. However, be mindful of potential redundancy, as these links often already exist in the main menu. -
Colleges and Locations Moved to Footer
The third and fourth columns of the main menu (Colleges and Locations) are being relocated to the site footer. This simplifies the main menu and improves focus on site-specific content. -
New “All SDSU” Menu
A new “All SDSU” button in the upper-right corner opens a universal menu of helpful SDSU links. This menu will be consistent across all Crimson sites. -
Improved Menu Interaction
Users can now click anywhere outside the menu to close it, eliminating the need to click the menu button again. -
Mobile View Fixes
An issue where the navigation overlapped the hero image on mobile devices (especially with longer menu titles) has been resolved. -
Search Box Enhancements
Several accessibility and functionality improvements have been made to the search box for a better user experience.
