The PDF Remediator is a specialized gadget designed to help CMS users identify and fix accessibility issues in PDF files directly within the Omni CMS environment. Getting Started
To begin remediating files, you must first navigate to the location of your PDFs.

- Open the Gadgets sidebar and click on PDF Remediator.
- Click the Start Remediation button. The gadget will automatically pull a list of all PDF files in your current folder
The Remediation Workflow
Step 1: Scan for Issues
The first step in any remediation process is to identify existing accessibility gaps. You can scan files individually or in groups.
- Individual Scan: Click the Ellipsis (⋯) menu next to a file and select Scan for Issues.
- Batch Scan: Select multiple files using the checkboxes on the left, then click the Ellipsis (⋯) in the header row and choose Scan Selected.
Once a scan is complete, the Status column will update to show "Passed" (green) or the number of errors found (red)
Step 2: Auto-Tag Document
- Click the Ellipsis (⋯) menu for the file.
- Select Auto-Tag Document under the "Remediate" section
Step 3: Edit Image Alt Text
Once tagged, you can provide descriptive text for images within the PDF.
- Select Edit Image Alt Text from the file's action menu.
- A preview window will open showing the PDF. The tool will highlight images one by one.
- Enter the descriptive text in the Alt Text Input field.
- Use the AI Recommendation button for a suggested description, then review and edit as needed.
- Click Save & Scan to apply the changes.
Publishing and Advanced Options
Publishing Directly
After fixing accessibility issues, you can publish the updated PDF directly from the gadget without returning to the main CMS file list.
- In the file's action menu, select Publish.
- The gadget tracks the version status; files with "Unpublished Changes" will be highlighted with a yellow badge.
Working Locally (Adobe Acrobat)
If a PDF has complex issues that the gadget cannot resolve (such as advanced table structures or interactive forms), you can download the file to work on it locally.
- Select Download from the action menu.
- The gadget retrieves the version from the Staging server, ensuring you are working on the most recent draft.
- Once fixed in Adobe Acrobat, re-upload the file to the CMS and run a fresh scan to confirm the issues are resolved.
